A Timeless Design Triumphs Again at the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race
Just after 18:00 on Sunday 28 December, Master Lock Comanche was the first yacht to cross the finish line of the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race 2025, completing the demanding 628-nautical-mile course in a time of two days, five hours, three minutes and 36 seconds.
At 30.5 metres (100 feet), the maxi once again demonstrated not only exceptional crew performance but also the enduring brilliance of her design. Conceived by Guillaume Verdier in collaboration with VPLP Design, the yacht continues to set the benchmark for offshore racing performance nearly a decade after her launch.
This latest Line Honours victory marks the fifth Sydney Hobart win for the same design, achieved under four different ownership teams, a rare testament to the robustness, adaptability and timelessness of the concept. Since her first victory in 2015, Comanche has consistently proven her dominance, including setting the current race record of 1 day, 9 hours, 15 minutes and 24 seconds, established in 2017.
In one of offshore sailing’s most demanding and unpredictable races, this success once again highlights the decisive role of innovative naval architecture. Comanche’s continued competitiveness at the highest level confirms that truly great design does not age, it evolves, adapts, and keeps winning.
