With this new trimaran, expectations are high. \u201cToday I\u2019m not afraid to say that the gap between <em data-start=\"447\" data-end=\"458\">Gitana 17<\/em> and <em data-start=\"463\" data-end=\"474\">Gitana 18<\/em> is greater than the gap between <em data-start=\"507\" data-end=\"518\">Gitana 17<\/em> and the previous generation of boats. Everything is 100% optimized for flight,\u201d says S\u00e9bastien Sainson, head of the design office.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"651\" data-end=\"1086\">\u201c<em data-start=\"652\" data-end=\"663\">Gitana 18<\/em> is kind of the culmination of a lot of things we already knew and could have done earlier but perhaps didn\u2019t dare to. Having the opportunity to launch such a project again, after seven years operating <em data-start=\"865\" data-end=\"876\">Gitana 17<\/em>, has allowed us to put all our ideas into action on a brand-new project, starting from a blank page,\u201d explains Sainson, one of the key figures behind the construction of the future <em data-start=\"1058\" data-end=\"1085\">Maxi Edmond de Rothschild<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1088\" data-end=\"1115\"><strong data-start=\"1088\" data-end=\"1115\">50,000 hours of studies<\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1117\" data-end=\"1585\">To design this new <em data-start=\"1136\" data-end=\"1163\">Maxi Edmond de Rothschild<\/em>, the Gitana Team also raised its design standards. The in-house design office includes eight full-time professionals\u2014young, highly talented profiles trained in naval architecture or engineering, with deep expertise in areas such as structural calculations. Designing <em data-start=\"1431\" data-end=\"1442\">Gitana 18<\/em> required nearly 50,000 hours of study, compared to 35,000 hours for <em data-start=\"1511\" data-end=\"1522\">Gitana 17<\/em>, which was already considered a very high number in the field.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1587\" data-end=\"1742\">\u201cWith this boat, we didn\u2019t even ask the question\u2014we knew it had to fly 100% of the time, so we did everything to make it as fast as possible while flying.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1744\" data-end=\"2370\">Looking at <em data-start=\"1755\" data-end=\"1766\">Gitana 17<\/em>\u2019s record\u2014sixteen races, fifteen podium finishes, and ten victories, including the Route du Rhum and the Ark\u00e9a Ultim Challenge\u2014its successor has big shoes to fill. But according to its designers, the new 32-meter giant won\u2019t lack flair: \u201cToday I\u2019m not afraid to say that the gap between <em data-start=\"2053\" data-end=\"2064\">Gitana 17<\/em> and <em data-start=\"2069\" data-end=\"2080\">Gitana 18<\/em> is greater than between <em data-start=\"2105\" data-end=\"2116\">Gitana 17<\/em> and the previous generation of boats. Everything is 100% optimized for flight. With this boat, we didn\u2019t even ask the question\u2014we knew it had to fly 100% of the time, so we did everything to make it as fast as possible while flying,\u201d emphasizes Sainson.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2372\" data-end=\"2668\">\u201cWe challenged ourselves not to build a boat that was just a small, incremental evolution. I really believe we\u2019ve created a new technological leap with this boat, just as we did with <em data-start=\"2555\" data-end=\"2566\">Gitana 17<\/em>.
