ULTIM: this class of flying giants, 32 meters long and 23 meters wide, all equipped with the latest innovations and helmed by renowned sailors! Their numbers may be limited, but the level of competition on the water is exceptional, and by 2021, at the Transat Jacques Vabre, observers are noticing a trend towards a more homogenized fleet, despite the victory of the Cammas – Caudrelier duo. In 2022, a few months before the Route du Rhum, the ULTIMs gathered in Concarneau for a new race, the Finist\u00e8re Atlantique. Although this Atlantic loop is sailed as a crew, it’s the perfect opportunity to measure up to the competition and find out where they stand technically and athletically. In this second episode, Guillaume Verdier, Maxi Edmond de Rothschild’s architect, takes a look at the fleet of giants, as well as giving us a first-hand account from one of the show’s key players: Armel Le Cleac’h, skipper of Maxi Banque Populaire XI.<\/p>\n
