Giovanni Soldini and Ferrari unveiled the Hypersail project this Wednesday \u2014 a 100-foot flying monohull with which he aims to break the round-the-world sailing record. Launch planned for 2026.<\/strong><\/p>\n

It will be a first in offshore racing. On Wednesday, June 25,\u00a0Giovanni Soldini<\/strong>\u00a0and his sponsor\u00a0Ferrari<\/strong>\u00a0unveiled the\u00a0Hypersail project<\/strong>: a 100-foot monohull that is\u00a0100% flying<\/strong>\u00a0thanks to\u00a0T-shaped foils<\/strong>\u00a0and lifting surfaces on both the keel and the rudder. \u201cIt is the meeting of different cultures and advanced technologies that allowed us to design a revolutionary sailboat,\u201d commented the 59-year-old Italian skipper.<\/p>\n

For over a year now, the team from\u00a0Guillaume Verdier\u2019s design office<\/strong>\u00a0has been working on designing this\u00a030-meter-long monohull<\/strong>\u00a0with a\u00a040-meter air draft<\/strong>, currently under construction in Italy, and set to be launched in\u00a02026<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

With this new boat, the winner of the\u00a01999 Around Alone<\/strong>\u00a0race (a solo round-the-world race with stopovers), who has spent many years sailing multihulls (Orma and MOD70), will attempt a new record: the\u00a0crewed round-the-world record<\/strong>, known as the\u00a0Jules Verne Trophy<\/strong>. A record never before attempted with a monohull \u2014 and certainly not a flying one.<\/p>\n
