hydraplaneur par Guillaume Verdier

In the late 1980s, Jean-François Morice, a sup-areo engineer from Arcachon, decided to adapt the principle of stepped hulls, inspired by seaplanes, onto sailboat hulls. He applied for a patent and built a 25 foot catamaran with Thierry Eluère with plane hulls.

In 2000, Yves Parlier and his team created Aquitaine Design Team, a naval architecture team, which Guillaume Verdier is a part of.

Aim: to build a 60 foot catamaran that can go faster on the water than current catamarans, by getting rid of Archimedes’ buoyant thrust.

A new concept is born: the hydraplaneur.
